Beyond Caring, soon playing at The Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago, is a gritty portrait of those who cling precariously to the bottom rung of the ladder. Full of life, humor, and tenderness, it sheds light on America’s shadow economy and shines an unflinching spotlight on the incendiary intersection of race and class.
David Schwimmer is a co-founder of Lookingglass, where he has acted in and directed several productions including Big Lake Big City, Trust, Our Town, st, The Master and Margarita, The Jungle, Eye of the Beholder, The Odyssey, The Idiot, Of One Blood and his and ensemble member Joy Gregory’s adaptation of Studs Terkel’s book RACE. He starred in the premieres of D Girl and Turnaround in Los Angeles, Glimmer Brothers in Williamstown, Some Girls in London, the revival of The Caine Mutiny Court Martial on Broadway and, most recently, Detroit at Playwrights Horizons. Notable television and film credits include The Iceman, Nothing But The Truth, Madagascar I, II & III, Duane Hopwood, Big Nothing, Band of Brothers, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Six Days Seven Nights, Apt Pupil, The Pallbearer and the hit comedy series Friends, for which he received an Emmy Award nomination. His film and television directing includes Trust, Run Fat Boy Run, Since You’ve Been Gone and the HBO series Little Britain USA.
He is on the Board of Directors of the Rape Foundation in Santa Monica, California.
Alex Zeldin began directing at school and while still a university student created a production of Calderon de La Barca's Constant Prince in Cairo, working with local musicians. In 2010 he was selected to helm the European Theatre Company at the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia, collaborating again with artists from the middle east on a production of Romeo and Juliet in Arabic and Italian designed by George Tsypin.
Since 2011, Zeldin has formed an ensemble of actors in the UK with the aim of collaborating together long term in projects where he writes through a devising process. Their projects include DOING THE IDIOTS (NT STUDIO 2012) (A response to Lars Von Trier's film THE IDIOTS) by Zeldin, SHEMEHE and BEYOND CARING (YARD THEATRE, 2013) by Zeldin [3] [4] Beyond Caring transferred to the National Theatre in May 2015.
His work has been recognised by a nomination to the Rolex Mentor Protege Award in 2012, for the leading young artistic voices of the future. He was one of the winners of the Quercus Award and is currently Associate Director of Birmingham Rep
