Virtual and augmented reality have the potential to revolutionize healthcare as an industry in ways that are almost impossible to measure. One aspect is the delivery of medical training, both in the classroom and through continuing education, or surgical practice through immersive technology during the days leading up to a procedure. 3D visualization allows for improvements in diagnostics, as well as patient empowerment, allowing non-medical professionals to visualize – in three dimensions – what certain conditions and procedures actually mean. Telehealth also becomes much more powerful when presented through AR and VR – with physical context available to both the medical professional and the patient. Even going beyond the medical industry, there’s VR based exercise programs, AR based cooking instructions, and even VR based meditation programs (which make it easier to block out the outside world distractions) – which all contribute to overall health and wellness. The event starts with informal networking and technology demonstrations, followed by a panel discussion to answer audience questions, and ends with more networking and technology demonstrations. The conversation will start with a primary topic, but ultimately goes wherever it goes. It is simple and informal - this MeetUp is about you, VR/AR Chicago members, and not the host or presenters.
